Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Feb. 12, 2008 (Day 17) Copacetic: very satisfactory I actually had a different photo in mind for today's word: a nice shot of some truffles I made this evening and the custom-framed print I finished up today for Valentine's Day gifts. But when I returned today from buying the last few things I needed for the truffles, I saw a cylindrical package sitting on my doorstep. I opened it to find a tube stuffed with more Hershey's kisses than I could ever fathom eating. This is a ridiculous amount of chocolate. It made my two dozen truffles look teeny tiny and sad next to this towering mass of silver-foiled goodness. But I'm definitely set for Valentine's chocolate. And if I do somehow manage to eat it all, I imagine I will fall into a most copacetic coma.
Feb. 11, 2008 (Day 16) Ersatz: being a substitute or imitation Let's play "one of these things is not like the other"... Can you tell which is the stuffed cat?Meet Sketch--the weirdest and goofiest addition to the family. I did not pose him; he actually sleeps like this and finds this pose supercomfy. So much for feline grace, eh?
Feb. 10, 2008 (Day 15) Raiment: clothing in general; garments I woke this morning to a sky clothed in bitter gold, a sallow raiment, and sour. I wondered, in my half-asleep state, if the world were ending. The gloaming was acrid and dour, tarnished and threatening.Through the numbing drowse arose a fleeting thought: "What a lovely picture that would make." It took mere moments more for some piece of my inner psyche to shake my brain awake and scream, "Then go grab the camera before it's gone!"I threw aside my covers and dashed into my office, snatching my camera off the desk before stumbling back to my bedroom and throwing myself down onto the bed as I ripped off my lens cap. As I frantically fiddled with the dials and placed my eye to the view finder, the trees began to bend hard with a sudden gust of wind where breaths before all had been still. Was this, truly, the aftermath of a nuclear explosion? My windows hummed low with a thrumming rattle, echoing the torment of the flattening trees. The sky began to spit on humanity, spattering the glass as I finally lowered my camera and waited for the roar of imminent demise to come shuddering forth. But just as quickly, it stopped. The wind hiccuped and drew in, then held. The clouds began to break. Morning drizzled like honey through the cracks, and the world was shown in normal hue once more. Life went on.I'm taking literary license with today's word, because this is really how my morning began. When I saw today's word, it fit what I had experienced. And I really wanted to share this image. This is straight out of the camera. The sky was actually this color. Creepiest start to a morning I've had in a long while.
