Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Mar. 8, 2008 (Day 42) Kismet: destiny; fate You think that it was meant to be. You later learn it wasn't. Until you realize perhaps this, too, was fate, and that life has something better in store for you down the road. It helps the heartache.I believe we do make our own choices in life, but I also have a little hope that kismet does exist. And that this small pain does mean that there's simply something better waiting for me in the future. On a brighter note, Howard Keel is awesome.
Mar. 7, 2008 (Day 41) Cabal: a group that seeks power usually through intrigue I nearly decided not to use this word and instead follow the Oxford English Dictionary's word for the day: brandish. But then the above image popped into my head for "cabal," and I really wanted to bring it to life. Honestly, I wonder what dark paths in my brain I unwittingly travel that dredge up weird concepts like this. But it turned out exactly as I saw it in my head. I am super happy with the result.I get such a buzz from these little creative sparks. I wish I had them more often.
Mar. 6, 2008 (Day 40) Rara avis: a rare or unique person or thing Yay! An easy one! Hopefully this is self-explanatory. :DI relish being weird now. Unique. Quixotic. Of course, everyone is unique, truly, but I somewhat vainly pride myself on this trait. Better than being narcissistic, I think. :PI love the English language. We just beg, borrow, and steal from every other language in the world and fold them in. A few days ago it was French. Today it's Latin--a phrase we apparently don't bother to translate. For those curious, it translates as "rare bird."
