Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Feb. 24, 2008 (Day 29) Irrupt: to burst in forcibly or suddenly Okay, I had no idea "erupt" actually had a homonym. Or that its homonym was also its antonym. This amuses me. And erases all doubt that I am, indeed, a nerd.I had other ideas to really illustrate this word, but I'm too tired to do them. Spent the day packing and cleaning, so I was drained by the time I got around to doing my photo for today. I also keep trying to remind myself that stories in photos can be very, very simple and still have huge impact. I need to practice this more.I wanted to convey the tension you get in old horror movies, so in my head this is titled, "Don't Open the Door!" Ironically, this looks the most processed of anything I've posted yet--and it took the least amount of time. Much easier to make something look dirty and grainy than clean and bright.
Feb. 23, 2008 (Day 28) Nettlesome: causing irritation, vexation, or distress Packing for a business trip next week, and this happens every time. I'm not sure who's vexed more: the cats who do anything in their power to prevent me from packing (as they have learned what this bag means) or me, who is racked with guilt from their cute, albeit frustrating, endeavors.Hard to leave them behind, but they are super cuddly when I get home. :) And this means a week of likely quick snaps and no processing--eek! I leave Monday for a conference in Florida. We'll see how it goes.
Feb. 22, 2008 (Day 27) Dissolute: loose in morals and conduct This is a rough sketch of a concept I had planned in case I made it to the LPS grand finale (one of two I had made plans to shoot, just in case). Though I didn't make it to the GF, I still like the idea of this image. It was fun to try it out for today's word. The full concept would include other details and a human element. Maybe it'll come to fruition in the future. If you're unable to read the stitching on the jeans, it says, "The Flirt," which would be the title for the complete piece. They're Old Navy jeans, and I love them. So flattering and comfy!Disclaimer: I am not dissolute. I am a perfect angel. Hi mom and dad, who I recently learned discovered this project!
