Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating.     Mar. 15, 2008 (Day 49) Sojourn: to dwell for a time; also, a temporary stay Something a little different. I had a whole "ruby slippers" concept planned and had to wait for nightfall to attempt it (feels like waiting forever now--8pm?? Argh!). Unfortunately, a recently fixed light outside my home thwarted my original composition and plan. (Really, good job, management. Happy you got it fixed so quickly. But you messed up my picture!)This ended up nothing like my original idea. It became its own little beast. It frustrated me for a bit. Then I decided to roll with it.Light painting on my front porch. A neighborhood cat wandered up to me to check out what I was doing. The neighbors stayed far, far away. ;)
    Mar. 14, 2008 (Day 48) Bedizen: to dress or adorn in gaudy manner So... yeah. I think at this age I've learned better than to do what this word describes. Perhaps the last time I looked so garish was when I played "Pretty Pretty Princess" as a kid. Or some time in the eighties. (Oh, definitely the latter. I unfortunately have photographic proof of that...)I did shoot a couple that had me looking more deranged in manner, but I looked like a misplaced extra for the Black Hole Sun music video. And I thought I should follow up yesterday's image with something slightly less freaky.Though, should I ever think it's a good idea to go out in public looking like this, do feel free to have me committed.
    Mar. 13, 2008 (Day 47) Demoniac: possessed by a demon or evil spirit A little fun with lighting, which is about the only thing I got right in this photo. I missed the focus. Composition was unintentional (though I ended up liking it). And I forgot to return my ISO to 100. Blargh.I preferred the OED word of the day for today (for once). Honestly, most of the OED words lately have related to parts of the liver or other internal organs. I'd do just about anything for my art, but I have to draw the line somewhere...
