Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

September 27, 2008 (Day 245) Capitulate: to surrender under agreed conditions Isn't that what love actually is?Older photo because things are a bit of a blur right now. Need to work a bit tomorrow as I "wasted" most of today. That included a very lovely lunch with the amazing Schmoo and Travis, and we got to meet David (RogersDA) along with his wife and daughter. The weather was horrible—sheeting rain by the time we were ready to go to our cars, of course—but the lunch was faboo as always. Sunflower, and the company, never disappoints.I finally managed to undo the screws hiding my RAM in my other laptop and was able to install the extra 1GB of memory I'd had for the past week. Apple put some serious might into locking those teensy screws. I still have marks in my palm from the end of my screwdriver because I had to push down so hard. Backed up files with Time Machine and transferred more stuff over to the external HD as well. Trying to free up space for all the Moab pictures the lappy will need to hold after next week!Note that I don't look like this in reality (yet). This shot has had heavy PP done, including major liposuction. ;)
September 25, 2008 (Day 243) Edify: to instruct and improve So brain-dead from work, no synapses are left to fire for a jolt of creativity. If you ever wanted to know how to be a courtier during the Italian Renaissance, Castiglione's The Book of the Courtier would be perfect for you. It sounds droll, but it's actually an amusing read. Of course, I find most medieval literature to be humorous, particularly Icelandic sagas, so it may be just my skewed thought process that makes it so.I thought I had a copy of Machiavelli's The Prince for this shot instead, but I was surprised not to find it on my shelves. At least this book is from the same time period. :PAnd, yes, many of my books retain such haphazard placeholders in them. Heh.
September 24, 2008 (Day 242) Numismatics: the collection and study of coins Fake macro photography with a handheld reversed 50mm lens is really tough. I suspect buying a real macro lens would not make macro photography any easier, though. I always run out of breath trying to hold it so long until I find my focus!
