Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

August 16, 2008 (Day 203) Go-around: runaround; deceptive or delaying action especially in response to a request Dictionary.com failed me by giving me a repeat word from a couple weeks ago, so the OED wins out today.I got a new toy today, one I'd been debating for more than a year and putting off acquiring. Can you tell what it is? :)Sketch was at first very bored by the whole idea of helping me test the toy out, but he warmed up a bit afterward and posed for me. However, it wasn't long before he grew tired of the whole ordeal and started making faces at the camera. ^_^Now to put this toy to use for my mega challenge concept!
August 14, 2008 (Day 201) Lackadaisical: lacking spirit or liveliness Time for my cliché "sad girl by the rainy window" shot. :)I love this word, even though rainy days do not make me feel this way. I always get a bit excited when the light in my room suddenly grows dark because a storm cloud has pushed its way in front of the sun. And instead of counting the seconds between thunder rolling and lighting flashing, I count how many roof-shuddering booms it takes before Sketch bolts upstairs like he has a demon on his tail to wriggle his way beneath the tight space under my sleepr sofa in the office. He puts on a brave face and bullies Britta most of the time, but he's just a little scaredy cat when it comes to thunderstorms. I find this hopelessly cute, especially when he recovers enough to come back downstairs and hop in my lap for some comfort.
August 13, 2008 (Day 200) Chichi: affectedly trendy Tried out a new lighting technique and effed it all up by missing the focus. So you get a more "abstract" illustrator-y version of what I'd imagined. Lesson learned for next time. And this is your final reminder to go vote for your favorite image in the DGrin Challenge poll. :)
