Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Apr. 25, 2008 (Day 90) Epigone: an inferior imitator, especially of some distinguished writer, artist, musician, or philosopher To paraphrase Proust...Please forgive me, Marcel. I promise to pay homage again next time I'm in Paris. For anyone wondering what the heck this image is about, Google "Proust madeleine" if curiosity begs. :)Some day I will finish the intricate, winding, and very verbose passages of this entire work. It's beautifully written, but it requires a lot of concentration. Certainly not light reading for me.
Apr. 24, 2008 (Day 89) Winsome: light-hearted Hooooooommmmmmmmme....is where the heart is.This image represents well my brand of humor. Being obsessed with words, I find jokes dealing with grammar and syntax hilarious. Thus, I like to take some colloquialisms people say literally. The problem is, I do it so deadpan, they honestly think I've misunderstood their meaning and try to clarify. I always have to interrupt and tell them I understood and they simply missed the joke, which wasn't funny anyway. Except, perhaps, to other linguistics fans. The day I find someone who gets the joke, I will have found either my soulmate or best friend for life. Until then, I'll enjoy watching people pause in discomfort as they wonder if I'm actually stupid and how to explain what they really meant; it's like watching someone thumb through a thesaurus in their brain. I confess, a lot of the amusement for me comes from this portion of the events. :)
Apr. 23, 2008 (Day 88) Ubiquitous: being everywhere Anywhere but here...Conference ends tomorrow, and I will finally return to my own bed. And my kitties.I look forward again to eight hours of blissful solitude. A day filled with a lack of forced socialization and a bulk of silence.Perfect.
