Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Apr. 15, 2008 (Day 80) Miasma: a thick vaporous atmosphere, often noxious My first attempt at photographing smoke. Frustrating. Difficult. Much more elaborate lighting set-up than I have ever bothered with or tried. But, wow! Is it ever hypnotizing and a little addicting.I'm going to keep my set-up set for a couple days and try it again. Plus, this experiment has the added bonus of making my office smell awesome because of the incense I'm using. :D
Apr. 14, 2008 (Day 79) Pin money: money for incidental expenses; also, a trivial sum Steadily saving up for my Scotland trip, now less than a month away!I don't usually have cash on me. I've been putting off going to the bank to make a deposit, but today's word made me run the errand so I could have money on hand for this shot. Nothing like having a hobby that forces you to do chores...
Apr. 13, 2008 (Day 78) Abulia: loss or impairment of the ability to act or to make decisions Not my first idea for the word today, but the one that finally brought back my missing "brain spark"—that moment where an image pops into my head, whole, complete, and processed. The one that spurs me to immediate action. I've missed this little spark.I had to improvise the image a bit from what I had in my head because it turns out I've run out of gauze and no longer have wrapping bandages. Ah, well. For some reason, this word makes me think of "oubliette," which makes me want to watch Labyrinth. Which reminds me--I found a copy of Darby O'Gill and the Little People! It's on its way to me, and I'm so excited. Next St. Patrick's Day will finally be complete!Oh, he is my dear, my darling one~His eyes so sparkling full of fun~No other, no other~Could match the likes of him~
