Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

August 3, 2008 (Day 190) Brummagem: cheap and showy; also, spuriousFickle: false, deceitful, treacherous Today's photo depicts gore and part of a woman's torso wearing a bra. It does not show violence or sexually explicit material. However, to prevent anyone getting in trouble during Monday's lunch break browsing, I wanted to give fair warning.Okay, warning's out of the way. Click here to view today's image. You can leave comments below if you have them.I took this image a week ago, but I've been putting off processing it. In a literal sense, it fits with today's first word (I made that wound with items I had in the house, so it's definitely cheap and showy), but I love how ironic it is when paired with OED's word for today, which is why it is also included above.I'm really not happy with the processing, but that's more to do with the fact that I really need to reshoot this, but I don't want to unless I have a model. So I like the concept, but I need to redo the execution so it actually looks like what's in my head. Maybe someday. :)Oh, I call this "Cross My Heart..."
August 2, 2008 (Day 189) Sapient: wise; sage; discerning Trying out a different processing style for an upcoming shoot I hope comes to fruition. This is based on the style of Joey Lawrence, who had an article in the most recent issue of Rangefinder.I mentioned Joey L. today during another super fabulous lunch at Sunflower with the even more fabulous Schmoo and special guest Travis, her husband. I was met with blank stares. This, however, does not detract from their coolness factor. They're one pretty cool couple. :)
August 1, 2008 (Day 188) Panoply: a splendid or impressive array I have a healthy collection of bumps and scars gained from growing up, as I was a bit of a tomboy and always a klutz. My affinity for bumping into things has never left, and with my fair skin, I bruise like crazy. Usually I just discover a new bruise on my body on a nearly daily basis, with absolutely no recollection of what I might have done to get it.During a particularly clumsy bout while dating somebody (I was doing house repairs, enough said), I had a couple friends express concern that he was beating me up. Especially when my stories sounded truly silly, because my clumsy stunts are sometimes just so ridiculous it's hard to believe they're true.Case in point, I burned myself while painting. Yeah. I had taken a light fixture down in my bathroom to make it easier to just paint behind it instead of around it, but it was my only light source, so I brought in a lamp and removed the shade to give myself enough light to see. I forgot the lamp was there, and in one downward stroke, my forearm smacked down hard on the bare bulb. Really, really bad burn.I am an epic klutz. One of my oldest nicknames is "Grace."
