Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating.     Mar. 3, 2008 (Day 37) Recherche: exotic; rare; also, affected, pretentious I love to collect things from my travels. A long time ago, it began with shot glasses, and I still pick up a shot glass from every new city I visit. I don't actually drink much, I just love glass, and I like looking at the collection. It gives weight--a mass--to my continuing journey and exploration.When I traipsed through a few countries in Europe two summers ago, I decided I wanted a few souvenirs that I truly couldn't get elsewhere. I also wanted them to be more than things that would collect dust on the shelf. I have enough of those things. But clothes I could outgrow. Hats I don't wear enough. And earrings are impossible unless they're stainless steel; I have a horrible allergic reaction to anything else. So it fell to necklaces.I love funky, chunky necklaces, so I started picking up a handmade necklace from every country. In honor of this word being stolen from French, I'm wearing the necklace I bought in Paris. I love wearing these items because I always had a dream of being asked about something I'm wearing and being able to say, "Oh, I got this in Paris." It's silly, I know, but it's fun. My necklaces may not be the most exotic, but they are rare. I love those little artists' shops, and I love wearing my memories.
    Mar. 2, 2008 (Day 36) Garrulous: talkative; also, wordy I love this word. I'm not the most talkative person, but this image immediately came to mind when I read the Google gadget this morning. Trying again to keep to simple stories. I put my strobe from yesterday away to again grab my window light.So tired. I'm struggling to want to process my images lately. Creative spark has been back this weekend, but the excitement of loading stuff on to my computer and processing the results is tougher. Probably some of reality in my life seeping into my process and draining a bit of the fun out. Hope to be over this hump soon.
    Mar. 1, 2008 (Day 35) Amanuensis: one employed to take dictation or to copy manuscripts Been a little while since an all-out concept popped into my head after reading a word, so it was nice to have the spark today. I immediately thought of this pin-up-style image when I read today's word, and it was fun to shoot and process. Certainly not a perfect match for what was in my head, but very close. I had to quit shooting because those heels were killing me. :)
