Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Feb. 8, 2008 (Day 13) Aberrant: abnormal What a fantastic word to build a photograph around! I had so many ideas for this, including a tongue-in-cheek one of just a regular SP. ;)Then I began to think about fashion photography and runway shows, and how they are so unrealistic and fantastical. No one would actually walk down the streets made up and dressed the way they are on runways. At least, not sanely so (hopefully). The picture those fashion shows present just isn't normal, but I still drool over fashion photography and find the costuming and make-up beautiful. Those images present strange fantasies as reality. I latch on to that idea whole-heartedly.That, or I've just been watching way too much anime lately. :P
Feb. 7, 2008 (Day 12) Extempore: without premeditation or preparation This pretty accurately describes how I start each day. My mind is muddy, and my eyes are cloudy. My motor skills are still a little rusted from hours of immobility. Even the act of stumbling down the stairs to my kitchen to prepare my much needed coffee is a routine of habit--my body goes through the motions without my mind engaging.I know this for a fact after I once grabbed the large Brita pitcher instead of my tiny half & half carton from the fridge to pour into my coffee. (Honestly, how else do you mistake the bottom shelf for the top shelf and a gallon container of hard plastic for a half-pint cardboard carton?) Thankfully, I caught myself before I accidentally watered down my cuppa joe, but it made me chuckle to realize that no, truly, my brain is not functioning until I finish that large, red mugful of caffeine.
Feb. 6, 2008 (Day 11) Lubricious: lewd; also, slippery or smooth So...I really couldn't shoot the 20 or so first ideas that popped into my head for this word. Or, at least, I could never post them in a public venue. I'm still blushing at my ideas. And giggling. Oh, goody--I so wanted to feel 14 again.I'd been meaning to try the reverse-lens macro technique again ever since I got my 50mm fixed prime, so I tackled it today. I had water splashed over the apple and was actually capturing the beaded drops (slippery on smooth skin, neh?) when I noticed my window's reflection in a pool of water where the stem used to be. I had other shots I liked from this effort that likely represented the word better, but the reflection won me over.
