Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Apr. 12, 2008 (Day 77) Salubrious: healthful I cook a lot. I figure the only way to be sure I'm putting the right things in my body is to prepare the food myself, so I cook more than eat out. I actually prepare all my meals at home and limit myself to eating out one night a week. It's a system that works well for me.To help with all that cooking, I have lots of cookbooks. I frequently make low-fat substitutions in recipes, and I tweak a little more than when I first began cooking because I've gotten braver and trust my skills more.Honestly, I just love cranking up my iTunes or Pandora station and bopping along as I chop, boil, and sautee. And it's so rewarding to enjoy the meal when its finished.
Apr. 11, 2008 (Day 76) Caesura: a break or pause in a line of verse; also, any break or pause I was heading downstairs to use the late afternoon light for what I thought was a clever photo of my iPod--paused. When I got to my living room, I was greeted with this sight outside my window. I thought it fit the word much better. :)The lack of sharpness is due to my now loathed and detested telephoto lens and the fact I was shooting through a window screen. Gives it a sort of dreamy quality, but I prefer being able to add dreaminess as an option later, not be forced into it by a blurry picture. :P
Apr. 10, 2008 (Day 75) Pugnacious: combative; quarrelsome I've been doing kickboxing as part of my workout routine, and I really enjoy it. It's especially motivating when you picture yourself hitting those who have bruised your heart in the past. Makes you punch extra hard.Today's photo brought to you a little early because I'm meeting a friend for dinner tonight. I'm going to have my first brush with Ethiopian food. I was warned about goat appearing on the menu, but I have greater concerns after reading this on the restaurant's web site: "Meaza Zemedu is the name of an Ethiopian woman entrepreneur who has been serving Ethiopian food lovers to the community and area residents for close to two decays." o_OSometimes we editors are way too easy to amuse...
