Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Mar. 9, 2008 (Day 43) Gewgaw: a trinket; a bauble Enough of me being in front of the camera. Something simple for a lazy Sunday. Something mindless. Something less requiring of emotion and the thoughts that accompany it. I'm tired and sniffly today.I bought this necklace holder and immediately broke it when I got it home. My first instinct was just to trash it, but I loved it so much, and the store had them on clearance. This was the only blue one left. So I broke out the crazy glue and pieced it back together. I still love it, cracks and all.The other bauble is from London. The scarf they're on is from Belize. This time change is wreaking havoc with my shooting times. On an unrelated note, I can't get enough of the song "Elevator Love Letter" by Stars. It makes me so happy./random train of thought
Mar. 8, 2008 (Day 42) Kismet: destiny; fate You think that it was meant to be. You later learn it wasn't. Until you realize perhaps this, too, was fate, and that life has something better in store for you down the road. It helps the heartache.I believe we do make our own choices in life, but I also have a little hope that kismet does exist. And that this small pain does mean that there's simply something better waiting for me in the future. On a brighter note, Howard Keel is awesome.
Mar. 7, 2008 (Day 41) Cabal: a group that seeks power usually through intrigue I nearly decided not to use this word and instead follow the Oxford English Dictionary's word for the day: brandish. But then the above image popped into my head for "cabal," and I really wanted to bring it to life. Honestly, I wonder what dark paths in my brain I unwittingly travel that dredge up weird concepts like this. But it turned out exactly as I saw it in my head. I am super happy with the result.I get such a buzz from these little creative sparks. I wish I had them more often.
