Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

May 1, 2008 (Day 96) Cloy: to weary or become distasteful through excess Getting just the right amount of honey on a piece of bread to balance out the peanut butter is tricky. Very tricky. It is a delicate marriage of the salty and the sweet. Tipped too much in either direction, the first bite is much less satisfying.I've always associated this word with smell (e.g., "the cloying scent was sickening in its sweetness"). I like when definitions make me rethink my typical verbiage usage.
Apr. 30, 2008 (Day 95) Lenity: the state or quality of being lenient *Sigh* "Fine. Go ahead and take the stupid picture, human."I could not for the life of me think of something to shoot for this word today. So you get Sketch. Again. I get the feeling he's going to be appearing very frequently throughout this project.I did feel this image of him fit better than my alternate: "You only have pictures of me because I let you take them, fool."
Apr. 29, 2008 (Day 94) Gimcrack: a showy but useless or worthless object I love Chococat (yes, it's from Hello Kitty), and I love this clock. It is the most useless hunk of cheap plastic, but I love it anyway. The cute thing just cannot keep time accurately. Within an hour of setting it to the correct time, it will be running 10 minutes slow. Even with fresh batteries. For some reason, I keep the batteries in--maybe to make it feel a little less useless and sorry than it really is.I figure the time it reflects is simply Sanrio Time, and Hello Kitty World just marches forward a little more slowly than ours.
