Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Apr. 22, 2008 (Day 87) Lionize: to treat or regard as an object great interest or importance So this would be a pretty big hint about who I work for. I've had the unique privilege of actually walking around the shuttle Discovery while it was being serviced before flight and having stood on the launch pad. (The shuttle pictured is housed at the Udvar-Hazy extension of the National Air and Space Museum.) Last night I was sitting at a table with people who accomplished the first Mars landing with Viking and who rubbed elbows with Gene Kranz getting Apollo 13 back to Earth. This still floors me, even though I've spoken with several of them before. In other news, I feel like I should apologize to Sketch for calling his picture crap yesterday as I just found out Disgruntled Intellectual Cat helped me win the LOLcat Gauntlet. Awesome timing, as my account here was renewing in two weeks! And I think I'm giving in to the need for a hospital. I hate doctors and avoid them whenever possible. I'm a firm believer that my body will heal itself eventually, but this is causing me too much pain, itchiness, and loss of sleep. It is spreading to my arms. I want to bathe in oatmeal and never get out with the way I feel right now. Gah!
Apr. 21, 2008 (Day 86) Chimera: a mental fabrication We were setting up the conference up until an hour ago. I am exhausted. And I am in much, MUCH pain from a severe allergic reaction to some mysterious thing. A hospital visit may be in my future tomorrow if this does not show any signs of clearing up.So I give you crap. At least I didn't skip.I'm going to pass out now.
Apr. 20, 2008 (Day 85) Lambaste: to scold sharply; also, to beat We have been lambasted by thunderstorms all day, and I don't mind. I love rainy weather. Granted, moreso when I can enjoy it while securely indoors, watching the water run rivulets down my windows and listening to it patter across my roof and ping against the metal watering can outside my door. I'm certainly glad I did all my running around yesterday and chose today for laundry day.The rain began this morning with an honest-to-God clap of thunder, like the sky just cracked open and unleashed a torrent. I was sipping my coffee and mulling over the silent, cloudy day outside my window when out of nowhere: "BOOM!" I went from having two kitties snuggled against me on the couch to zilch, in less than two seconds. Once I recovered myself from nature's little joke, I had a good chuckle at how funny my cats looked hightailing it to safer ground (which I think was behind the couch in my office, but I don't know for certain--I couldn't find hide nor hair of them for a good two hours afterward). It's good preparation for Scotland, at any rate. :)Off to a conference for the week tomorrow, so expect many shots from inside a hotel room. Again. Thrilling.
