Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Feb. 6, 2008 (Day 11) Lubricious: lewd; also, slippery or smooth So...I really couldn't shoot the 20 or so first ideas that popped into my head for this word. Or, at least, I could never post them in a public venue. I'm still blushing at my ideas. And giggling. Oh, goody--I so wanted to feel 14 again.I'd been meaning to try the reverse-lens macro technique again ever since I got my 50mm fixed prime, so I tackled it today. I had water splashed over the apple and was actually capturing the beaded drops (slippery on smooth skin, neh?) when I noticed my window's reflection in a pool of water where the stem used to be. I had other shots I liked from this effort that likely represented the word better, but the reflection won me over.
Feb. 5, 2008 (Day 10) Ineffectual: without effect; weak; useless Yep, pretty much sums up how I felt this morning after seeing the LPS semifinal results. Taking a picture today took a lot of talking into. Feeling a bit deflated still. So I cheer myself up by doing stupid stuff in Photoshop......and buying lots of new music. The blue light is courtesy of using the tungsten WB setting with window light, because I am most definitely feeling blue.
Feb. 4, 2008 (Day 9) Magniloquent: lofty or grandiose in speech or expression Yeah...this was a stretch. I'm so not feeling the creative juices today. I am busy. I am stressed. I am nervously awaiting the LPS semifinal results. I am too unfocused today.I latched on to the "lofty expression" part of this definition, which I interpret as haughty--though I'm taking a literal meaning of "expression" here instead of the implied verbal intent in the definition. I also played up the literal part of "lofty." My brain is dead today. This is all I got.On a brighter note (ha!), I absolutely love the windows in my home.
