Word of the Day

I've seen, and been inspired by, many "photo a day" projects, so I thought I'd try one myself, with my own little grammarian spin: create a photo using a Word of the Day gadget on my Google homepage for guidance and inspiration. And what better day than January 27, my thirtieth birthday, to begin such an undertaking? (Okay, maybe new year's day, but I was too lazy to bother then.) This project is also to help keep me thinking and creating images the way DGrin's Last Photographer Standing contest has challenged me to do--a challenge I've found really enjoyable and creatively stimulating. Wish me luck (and perseverance) in this endeavor!

Feb. 14, 2008 (Day 19) Amative: pertaining to or disposed to love You try to warn people when you begin dating that they're dating a photographer. To us, that explains everything. However, those potential SOs really have no idea what they're getting into. Especially when you mention you've started a daily photo project. When you smile sweetly and ask them to be a part of your photo of the day, it's almost endearing to watch their eyes travel past you and finally notice the tripod you've already set up with camera mounted on top, witness those eyes widen as a look of pure terror flits briefly over their features, and notice that half-step backward they take before replying with a wavering voice, "Suuuuure."Happy Valentine's day! Hope you got away with something just as fun because of the day. ;D
Feb. 13, 2008 (Day 18) Perdurable: very durable; long lasting My original idea involved rear curtain sync with my strobe and Tupperware bouncing off my floor, but I thought my downstairs neighbor would be really displeased about that. So on to Plan B: thinking about what's durable or long lasting.I thought first of a small vase my great-grandfather handmade that I've had since I was a kid, but remembering the small chip it's acquired on the lid, I felt it failed the "durable" part of the word.As I thought more about the definition, I realized words themselves last a good long while, and language is very resilient. Perhaps not the "written" word so much, with the way the Internet is going, but language will always be: be it grunts, waves of the hand, or eloquent speech. We will always strive to find a way to communicate with each other.
Feb. 12, 2008 (Day 17) Copacetic: very satisfactory I actually had a different photo in mind for today's word: a nice shot of some truffles I made this evening and the custom-framed print I finished up today for Valentine's Day gifts. But when I returned today from buying the last few things I needed for the truffles, I saw a cylindrical package sitting on my doorstep. I opened it to find a tube stuffed with more Hershey's kisses than I could ever fathom eating. This is a ridiculous amount of chocolate. It made my two dozen truffles look teeny tiny and sad next to this towering mass of silver-foiled goodness. But I'm definitely set for Valentine's chocolate. And if I do somehow manage to eat it all, I imagine I will fall into a most copacetic coma.
